In May, 2011, event management students from Central Michigan University traveled to Cannes, France to help launch the Festival de Film. The international field experience program offered unique work-experience opportunities at the festival including public relations, VIP elite services, and facility operations. The program was an exclusive opportunity that allowed students to expand their global perspective and participate in the largest and most prestigious international cinema and media event in the world. The festival attracted major motion pictures, their producers, directors, and celebrities from around the world. For event management students, the opportunity to work and learn in this environment was an amazing experience! If you are interested in learning more about opportunities like this, please contact Lorie Tuma at tuma1la@cmich.edu.

Seminar at Sea

In December, 2010, MPI (Meeting Professionals International) students traveled to Miami and sailed out of the harbor on a 4-day Seminar at Sea. The field experience provided them with a "behind the scenes" look at how on-board events are coordinated and produced. The 16 students met with the Captain, the Cruise Director, and representatives from every service section on the ship and were granted exclusive access to the "back of the house".

Boston Marathon

In April, 2011, MPI (Meeting Professionals International) students traveled to Boston to help coordinate the Boston Marathon. The field experience offered direct access to one of the most successful events in the USA. Volunteers are the backbone of the Boston Marathon and this experience provided students with access to runners, sponsors, and thousands of supporters. They also made some wonderful industry connections!
